Misdemeanor
A Misdemeanor is an offense that is punishable by up to one year in the local or county jail. Penalties depend on the classification.
- Class A misdemeanors are the most serious with a punishment of up to one year in jail and fines of up to $4,000.
- Class B misdemeanors are punishable by up to 180 days in jail and fines of up to $2,000.
- Class C misdemeanors are punishable by fines of up to $500.
If the statute does not classify an offense, it will be treated as a Class C misdemeanor.
It is possible for the court to order a sentence of probation which will include certain restrictions and possibly community service.
